At last someone who knows the inside of an insomniac's life. For me it's pretty much like that a great deal of the time. I don't think it's the world exactly, but much more this country, which shoulders the burden of a work ethic so that the vast majority of the planet doesn't have to. I read somewhere or other (don't quote me on this) that the only nations that have a harder-working population than ours are Finland and South Korea.

All you can do is try to weather it, I've found. That doesn't make it any better, but it at least gives hope that it will, sooner or later, come to something of a lull.

Blue-dog versus far-right? Hmm. To be honest, what's most interesting to me is that nobody seems to talk about the "left" versus the "far left" in the same terms. It's all about gradations of "hyper-conservatism" in this country, while various pseudo-socialist party lines are looked upon as unassailably enlightened and progressive. Conservative ideology is being picked apart ad infinitum, while the American Left is seen as the yardstick by which it is to be measured. To me it's not only a perpetuation of the obsolescent "bipolar" political system, but an attempt to define the entire discussion of political directionism in terms of its nearness to the predetermined goal of turning this country into an authority-driven statist society.

What's "worse" to me has nothing to do with Hoffman or Owens' fitting into a skewed political spectrum. It is rather the continued slide this country is making away from the most basic principles of individualism, independence, self-reliance and self-determination.

I'm not sure what's worse. Bill Owens being a Blue-Dog thorn in the side of the Democratic caucus or Doug Hoffman being a far-right thorn in the Republican caucus.

Virginia Conservative:
The phrase has come into use because many citizens of this blessed land have done what God (the One True God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob) commands all peoples of the earth not to do. Forget not the Lord and all His benefits. Do not go into the land and say "by my hand have I gotten all this", and others. America is unique in the same respect as Israel is. They are the only two nations in mankinds history to have been birthed by His hand. Any nation can receive the Blessing of God or His curse. It is all wrapped up in His promise to Abraham. "Those who bless you, I will bless. Those who curse you, will I curse." Notice that He does not put a condition on it that the nation must be good or evil. Their choice. At this time America is, quite possibly on the road to cursing Israel. It already curses God in many ways, yet He withholds His judgement for now, giving America time to repent. Americas choice.
Meditate on these verses when you can: Judges 5:9; Ps.103:1-5, 20-22 & continued in Ps.104:1-5; Ps.34:1; best of all Ps.145:1-2, 21. Many citizens in this land are in the process of violating Isaiah 48:11 unawares and our President, by virute of accepting their adulation is also violating this proclamation of God.
Blessing in the name of the Most High God,
John

The mothers. I'm quite acerbic. :) I was mocking the commenter that believes that if we didn't allow abortions and hand out endless welfare the streets would literally be full of starving children. I happen to believe in human nature, and I also believe that if we didn't create incentives for fathers to abandon their children, they wouldn't.

It's not that I don't believe in charity - I do! I just don't believe that the government should intentionally create a parasite class.

I'm a bit confused by your comment. Are you asking the question of me or of the quoted comment? Given your tone as well as your website, I assume you don't support welfare or abortion. So who should get jobs? The children? The mothers? The fathers?

I must say, Im partial to Johnny Cash's versions.

There was always something in his music that seemed to naturally strike a nerve for me, growing up as I did in a railroad family. His sense of the common working man and the backwoods life style remind me of my father's working career running coal trains out of the mines in southern Ohio and West Virginia. My brothers and I called ourselves B&O brats because all we knew until we left home was trains and coal mines.
